Mother of dumped newborn baby sought by police

"The passerby says she noticed a towel moving and on further inspection, she found a newborn baby boy. The police were notified and the baby was taken for medical assessment and declared healthy.

RATANDA. – The Vereeniging  Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit (FCS) has launched a hunt for the mother of a newborn baby who was found by a passerby on Saturday.

The baby was left at a dumping site at corner Boshhoek and Malibane Street  behind a Stadium, with the umbilical cord still attached.

Constable Maria Letsele says, “The passerby says she noticed a towel moving and on further inspection, she found a newborn baby boy. The police were notified and the baby was taken for medical assessment and declared healthy.”

“A case has been opened for investigation and anyone  who might have information of the whereabouts of the mother can contact the Investigating Officer Sergeant Timotheous Macart on 072 040 1042/ 016 450 2566. “
