Clean up campaign at crime hotspot in Sicelo

The Police in Meyerton along with the community carried out a cleaning campaign at an open veld in Sicelo recently

Meyerton . – The open veld which is situated opposite Sicelo flats is deemed to be one of the crime hotspots in the area.

Recently the body of 16-year-old Nthabiseng Nthoesang was discovered in the open veld.

The community complained that six other women had been murdered in Sicelo.

Police spokesperson Constable Tlaleng Moloi says, “The Police and the community took upon themselves to clean this open veld as it has turned into a crime hotspot in the area.

“This will be a continuous campaign to clean all the open velds that are crime hotpots as we have realised that most of murder and rape cases take place there.”

Some of the stakeholders that assisted in the clean-up are the Community Policing Forum (CPF) patrollers, Gende-based Violence (GBV) Brigades, Red Ants, business forum, Men and women as safety promoters, Alpha trauma centre, Agape Lerato, Dulous, Meyerton Child welfare.

Moloi urged the community to support and take part in the cleaning campaigns. “Together we can make our area safe for all its residents. Let us work together in fighting crime in the Meyerton area.”
