MDM condemns protests along R59
The municipality said that it has been informed that the reasons for protests emanate from housing need and lack of services.

SEDIBENG.- The Midvaal Local Municipality (MLM) has condemned the violent protests resulting in temporary closure and attacks on vehicles on the R59 from this morning. “Although the residents have a democratic right to protest it should be peaceful and not infringe on other residents democratic rights.” The municipality said that it has been informed that the reasons for protests emanate from housing need and lack of services. “Midvaal has proactively undertaken investigations and studies to find suitable land in order to provide the residents of Piels Farm, Boitumelo and Khayelitsha with decent housing with access to water, sewer and electricity. The feasibility study has been conducted and land has been identified for the development, while understanding that housing is not the competency of the municipality.” The municipality is requesting the community to cease illegal violent protest and understand that it is trying its best to resolve the matter speedily. “Midvaal will be engaging with the residents to find a sustainable solution to this matter.”
