Sasolburg and surrounds affected by transformer failures at substation

Here is Eskom's explanation for the electrical problems currently experienced in Sasolburg and Vaalpark

Here is Eskom’s explanation for the electrical problems currently experienced in Sasolburg and Vaalpark

Failure of two transformers at Vaalpark Substation has led to a loss of supply to Metsimaholo Municipality (Sasolburg) and Eskom customers on the Saaiplaas Rural line.

The first transformer failed on the afternoon of Saturday, 12 June. At that stage, no supply was lost as the second transformer was able to carry the load. The second transformer, however, also failed yesterday (Sunday) resulting in an unplanned outage.

Tests are still underway to determine the cause and extent of the damage; however, faults of this nature tend to result in extended interruption times.

An estimated restoration time is still unknown, but Eskom will issue an updated statement once more information becomes available.

“We apologises for the inconvenience and remind electricity users to treat all electrical lines, sockets and appliances as live and dangerous at all times as electricity can be switched on without notice,” says Eskom in a media release.
