Former Jomo Cosmos goalkeeper part of initiative

“I want to thank all those participating teams that made this tournament a success especially for their contribution towards those sanitary towels."

SEBOKENG.- Former Jomo Cosmos goalkeeper Avril “Chawe” Phali was part of  a delegation that visited Sizanani Secondary and Technical School in Zone 13, Sebokeng to donate sanitary towels to girl child learners recently.

These sanitary towels were contributed at a soccer tournament held in Zone 13 with a main aim being to raise awareness of the child girls’ needs at school level. The tournament was organised by Zana Letsoaka as part of social responsibility. The five masters’ teams that formed part of this initiative contributed twenty-five sanitary towels each. The masters’ teams that participated in this tournament were Conti, Hay’ funiwena, Rhinos Masters and Kaizer Chiefs Supporters.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Letsoaka hailed the project as a success with school learners overwhelmed by this donation. Letsoaka told Sedibeng Ster that most of the child girls experienced problem regarding sanitary towels.

“I want to thank all those participating teams that made this tournament a success especially for their contribution towards those sanitary towels. This is little contribution we make in our community especially those who are in need.  We will continue with this initiative because there are many young girls out there who need our help, not only sanitary towels but our protection as a society. I pledge my commitment to support those who are in need in our community, young and old,” he said.

Letsoaka revealed to Sedibeng Ster that he has approached some individual to help to buy school unfirm for two learners. He said it is work in progress and they expect to hand unfirms to the learners before the end of the week.

Avril Phali told Sedibeng Ster that he was honoured to be invited to be part of this initiative when they handed those sanitary towels the learners.

“I want to thank Zana Letsoaka for inviting me to be part of this initiative and I was very humbled to see these young girls appreciate the little we contributed to them. I was very touched, and I wish I could have done more to help them. These are our children, and it is our responsibility to make sure they go to school without worries. But I was encouraged by their spirit, they were very excited,” he concluded.
