Every sportsperson has to decide what kind of legacy they want people to remember them with after their ‘final whistle’.
There are those who will be remembered for their positive contribution and generosity in the development of sports after the final whistle, and there are those who are going to be remembered for their desruptive contribution in the development of our sports, especially football.
The question is, what legacy do you want to leave as men and women in sports, that the community will remember you with? Will you be remembered for ‘looting’ the development of sports? Or will you be hailed as an unsung hero by your own community after the final whistle?
It is your choice what kind of legacy you want to leave in your community.
So much happened in the past two weeks with hooligans looting other people’s businesses in the name of the former President Jacob Zuma. You ask yourself, what this has to do with TOUCHLINE or sports? People do the same with sports, people use other people’s names to loot the development of sports in our communities.
We have no shame!
At times like these sports, sports is the only tool that can be useful to bringing back sanity and unity in our country like it used to be the case in the past. Not long ago, our country was in flames and TOUCHLINE wants to reflect back to when sports people especially football people would defend this country uniting the nation, white and black. For example, in the past football people did not use guns to bring unity in this country but sports to unite the nation.
What we miss in our sports is Madiba Magic!
This is the same magic that saw the birth of a Rainbow Nation in all our sporting codes. Those with good memories will remember the 1995 Rugby World Cup and the 1996 AFCON to mention but these two most important events in the South African’s sports calendar.
Madiba (Nelson Mandela) left his legacy for everyone to see not only politics but as well as in sports, education and humanity. TOUCHLINE challenges the powers that be to organise big sporting event to bring back unity in our communities.
What is needed is Madiba Magic!
Those in power are biggest looters of our economy. Did I hear somebody say, “did you really saiy that?” Yes, and I can repeat it. They are the biggest looters of our economy.
The problem with our society is that we close our ears when the truth is been told, the biggest looters are those in power hence we find ourselves in this chaos. TOUCHLINE challenges sports administrators to bring dignity back in our sports. It is sad because recently every Tom, Dick and Harry can be our leaders in sports. People with little knowledge are running our sports especially football that is why it is easy for everyone to organise any sporting activities in our country despite the nationwide lockdown. This tells you how much damage has been done in our sports, football to be specific. It is sad because some football people use our talent wrong in order to survive!
It is your choice, what kind of legacy do you want to leave?
