‘Wonderboy’ does wonders in the ring

"That was my strategy to stop the fight in 12 rounds because this is how I prepared for the fight."

BOIPATONG.- Bongani “Wonderboy” Mahlangu produced an impressive performance when he defeated Tony Rashid in the junior featherweight and African Boxing Union fight in Tanzania recently.

Mahlangu stopped this stubborn opponent in 12 rounds and tempers were flying high after the fight with his opponent’s corner claiming he put something in his boxing gloves to win the fight.

Sedibeng Ster Sport is in the possession of the fights’ video and Rashid’s corner attack Mahlangu demanding to see his gloves after the referee stopped the fight.

Mahlangu gained strength in the 12th round which was the last round of the fight and forced his opponents to the corner with punches. The referee had to stop the fight twice with Rashid on his knees Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Mahlangu said it was such a great feeling to be back in the ring after a long time.

Mahlangu said he won the fight against all odds taking into consideration what transpired before the fights, from the arrival at airport.

“I was well prepared for this fight and there was no way that I was going to lose it taking into consideration the hard work I put at gym. Look, that was my strategy to stop the fight in 12 rounds because this is how I prepared for the fight. I regained strength in the 12th round and my opponent was tired and I knew he won’t survive my onslaught. I’m happy because the situation was hostile from the airport. We had the feeling that everything was against us. We were frustrated before the fight, but we had to call the promoter of the tournament to intervene. The accommodation was worse, but it was a mind game to get into our heads before the fight,” said Mahlangu.
