“House first, vaccine later” : Gogo Mathefeni

"I am sorry Ntate Makhura," she said speaking about why she does not want to be vaccinated ahead of getting a house.

SHARPEVILLE. – An 81-year-old Gogo make it clear that for now she is focusing on getting her RDP house as promised by the government.

Annah Mathafeni told the Gauteng Premier, David Makhura Sedibeng District Municipality and Emfuleni Local Municipality officials at the time of their special ‘door to door pop up vaccine campaign’  in Vuka section, Sharpeville on Friday.

Sitting next to the entrance of the gate of her daughter in-law’s house, Mathafeni pointed out that her children are seriously ‘tired’ of staying with her.

“I am sorry Ntate Makhura,” she said speaking about why she does not want to be vaccinated ahead of getting a house.

” I was among the first group registered for houses around 1994. A Councillor told me straight that my name does not appear on the registered waiting list. Meaning I will have to start the queue from the scratch. I am aware that I am too old and need to look upon myself. How can I say I am free while I am stuck at someone’s property,” she asked.

Premier David Makhura asked Executive Mayor Rev Gift Moerane to intervene, and  to priorities the Gogo’s crisis.
