SAPU calls for president to declare police killings a national disaster

SEDIBENG. – The South African Policing Union (SAPU), condemns with the strongest possible terms the barbaric continuing and attacks on police. Police Spokesperson, Colonel Athlenda Mathe said Wednesday police officers were patrolling using an unmarked police vehicle in Orange Farms when they come across an abandoned bakkie on the side of the road and hen they approached the bakkie, a group of men opened fire towards their direction. Two members were wounded . Mathe said a reservist Constable died on the scene while the other officer is recovering at a hospital. The suspects took the keys of the officers’ vehicle before they fled the scene. The provincial secretary of the union, Mogale Mmutle said they are pleading with the State President Cyril Ramaphosa to announce harsher sentences for the police killers.
