She lost one of her kidneys in 2013 due to cancer. Her other kidney is now barely functioning.
In April 2020 when we wrote the first article, she had 14% function in her kidney, currently it is only 4%.
Lee-Anne has now reached stage 5 CKD due to Covid. People who have reached stage 5 generally have to receive lifelong dialysis or require a kidney transplant.
For the past year she received dialysis treatment three times a week (four hours per session).
Vaalweekblad received a letter from Lee-Anne written from her hospital bed:
“I have been delaying the search for a donor due to not wanting to impact another person’s life, unfortunately I was advised by my doctor last night that it has now reached critical levels and I need to start the process immediately.”
Lee-Anne’s blood type is A+. She asked that anyone who can possibly donate a kidney to contact her transplant agent Cynthia Hughes via email: Cynthia.Hughes@netcare.co.za
She also said: “Please ensure that you are aware of all possible complications and risks involved both short term and long term. I pray that God holds his hand over this process and whatever must be will find a way.”
Cynthia Hughes, Renal Recipient Co-Ordinator, Netcare Limited said in an email: “We do both related and unrelated donation transplantation in South Africa. The unrelated donation just has to panel via a transplant committee as well as the DOH.”
