SHARPEVILLE.- Residents in Tshepiso Phase 3 are celebrating the construction of a new bridge by the Active Citizen of South Africa (ACSA) after years of struggling with dangerous roads and a poorly constructed man-made crossing.

ACSA representative, Edwin Kele, told Sedibeng Ster that Ward 11 residents between Polomiet and the Phase 3 informal settlement had long complained about the bad conditions.

School children frequently arrived at school wet after navigating the previous crossing.

“It (the bridge) was repaired after elderly residents were badly injured trying to use the area – it came to the attention of ACSA leadership in May, and without hesitation ACSA managed to get the concrete rings to help the community,” Kele said.

All matters are attended to, but as you know, people will attempt to resurrect the dead during elections.

Responding to the initiative, Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) spokesperson, Makhosonke Sangweni, maintained that infrastructure matters must be handled by the government.

“When reported, all matters are attended to, but as you know, people will attempt to resurrect the dead during elections for votes.”

Concluding his remarks, Kele emphasised that ACSA takes pride in delivering practical solutions across the Vaal region.

“To date, ACSA has been able to open more than 821 sewer manholes as part of an ongoing programme of restoring the dignity and putting Vaal people first.”
