VANDERBIJLPARK.- The All Saints Church family took to the streets to participate in its annual Fun Walk on August 29 in Vanderbijlpark.

This was the third annual Fun Walk event aimed at assisting those in need.

Dot Monare, the chairperson of Mothers Union, hailed it a huge success.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Monare said it is the church’s responsibility to take care of the poor, quoting from the Bible. Monare was accompanied by Mattie Pooe, who is the organisation’s secretary.

The event started with a prayer before young and old, men and women, boys and girls took to the streets. She told Sedibeng Ster Sport that the Fun Walk was not about competing against each other or winning but for a good cause.

She told Sedibeng Ster Sport that the purpose was to assist orphanages in need of food and other necessities like clothes and blankets. Monare took the opportunity to acknowledge their partners who made the event possible.

Pick n Pay, iWater and Econo Food are some of the sponsors who came on board to make the day a success. This Fun Walk also marked the end of Women’s Month, and Monare acknowledged the contribution and struggle of women.

“For the past three years we have been hosting this event to raise money for orphanages and families who are in need. After we raise funds, we go to our communities and see what we can do for them, especially those who need our help. I want to thank the sponsors for always being there for us. This initiative is for charity purposes, and we will be happy if other sponsors can come on board in next year’s Fun Walk so that we can be able to touch more lives,” she concluded.

The winners were presented with medals and provided with refreshments at the courtesy of the above-mentioned sponsors.
