Men walk a mile in women’s shoes during GBV awareness campaign

The awareness was demonstrated by men in blue who dressed up in women’s clothing, high heels and put on weaves and makeup in order to fulfil the theme of the day dubbed ‘Walk a mile in her shoes’.

SHARPEVILLE. – Members of Sharpeville SAPS together with the Department of Community Safety, Community Policing Forum (CPF), Gender Based Violence (GBV) brigades, Youth desk and members of the community embarked on a Gender Based Awareness Campaign this morning.

The awareness takes place during the 16 days of Activism for no Violence against Women and Children.

The awareness was demonstrated by men in blue who dressed up in women’s clothing, high heels and put on weaves and makeup in order to fulfil the theme of the day dubbed ‘Walk a mile in her shoes’.

Police spokesperson Constable Busisiwe Sango says, “Today’s walk is evidence that some men are taking a stand against Gender Based Violence and saying no to the abuse and brutal killings of women and children.

“These men are saying enough is enough and speaking out against barbaric crimes that have been perpetrated against women and children by fellow men.”

Sango states that during the campaign, men who were victims of abuse were also encouraged to speak out.
