Woman killed by son to be laid to rest tomorrow

Nokulunga Shange (47) who was stabbed to death by her 23-year-old son last week, will be laid to rest at the Vanderbijlpark cemetry tomorrow.

BOIPATONG. – Police Spokesperson Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela reported that the suspect was arrested after being caught by members of the community.

“This brutal act of violence took place in Sector 2, Boipatong. The deceased was with her husband and when he went outside to smoke, he heard his wife screaming moments later.

“The husband rushed inside the house and found the son with his mother in the bedroom. The son was holding a knife. The husband tried to force entry into the bedroom but the son blocked the door and stabbed his mother in the neck.”

Maxambela says a struggle ensued between the suspect and the stepfather and that is when the son stabbed his stepfather on his forehead, upper arm and upper back.

“The suspect tried to run away but was apprehended by members of the community. He was then arrested by the Sharpeville Police.

“The mother was certified dead on the scene while her husband was taken to hospital for further medical treatment.”

Uncle Thabang Shange says, “We believe that the motive behind this brutal killing is money. The boy always demanded money from his mother and he would take it by force. He is an only child and his mother took him through schooling and even took him to University. Things started going wrong in his second year when we realised that he was into drugs.”

Shange said that as a family, they were traumatised by the incident, “What the suspect did was intentional and we hope that Justice will be served.”

A murder and attempted murder case docket has been launched for investigation.
