Sundowns does the double on Al Ahly
“What makes this victory sweeter for me is beating the collaboration."
SEDIBENG.- No doubt Mamelodi Sundowns is re-writing African Football history after they beat the Egyptian giants Al Ahly back-to-back in the CAF Champions League at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
Sundowns beat their former coach Pitso Mosimane’s team 1-0 in a game that was full of controversy ahead of this fixture after Kaizer Chiefs provided the visitors, Al Ahly, with training facilities in preparation of this encounter. Sundowns beat Al Ahly with the same score, 1-0 in Cairo two weeks ago to make them one of the few teams that beat Al Ahly in their own backyard. This proves that Sundowns are a giant in African football with their current top performance.
Apart from beating Al Ahly, Sundowns has also being dominating the domestic football league at least for the past 10 years.
The win against Al Ahly on Saturday was not a fluke taking into consideration that they beat them with the same score at their own back yard. There was much to talk about ahead and after this encounter with some supporters accusing Kaizer Chiefs of being jealous for allowing Al Ahly to use their facilities.
Sundown Coach, Manqoba Mnqithi stook a a swipe at Kaizer Chiefs and said: “What makes this victory sweeter for me is beating the collaboration. For me winning the match was sweeter because I felt Chiefs was being spiteful by allowing that because you could have easily taken Al Ahly to that change room that got a ramp on their other side that long distance.”
