Three foreign nationals nabbed for copper cable theft

Three foreign nationals were arrested on Monday after police received a tip off of ongoing cable theft. 

VEREENIGING. – The incident happened on Mario Milani Drive next to the Railway line. Police spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda reports that the information was operationalized and police together with VR security, Afrigaurd  Chopper, SRS security, Sedibeng K9 unit  and Sedibeng public order police rushed to the scene.

“On arrival at the scene, suspects fled in different directions towards the bushes trying to evade the police.

“With the help of all stakeholders three suspects aged between 20 and 25 were arrested for possession of equipment used in copper cable theft and copper cable.”

Funda says during  preliminary investigations, it was established that the suspects were foreign nationals who are in the country illegally.

“Suspects were arrested and detained in Vereeniging cells.

“They will appear in the Vereeniging Magistrate court to answer to charges of illegal immigration, Damage to essential infrastructure, possession of copper theft emplements and cable theft.”

Vereeniging  SAPS station commander Brigadier Sibongile Ndaba commended members on the job well done.

“The police in Vereeniging will continue to work with the community and other law enforcement agencies to do away with all forms of criminality.”
