SEDIBENG.- It was the night that belonged to Sundowns as they almost took every award available in the podium, as a club and their individual star players Pater Shalulile and Andile Jali.
Jali scooped the MTN8 Last Standing, Netbank Cup Player of The Tournament and DStv Premiership Midfielder of The Season awards.
Shalulile won 2021/2022 Footballer of The Season, DStv Player Of the Season awards and the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot Award for scoring the most league goals.
As if this is not enough, Lyle Lakay scooped the Defender of The Season Award with the club’s co-coaches Rulani Mokwena and Manqoba Mnqithi walking away with Coach of The Season Award. Sundowns completed their treble over the weekend when they were crowned the Nedbank Cup champions after they beat Marumo Gallants 2-1 in Rustenburg on Saturday night. For sometime now Mamelodi Sundowns has dominated the domestic football with the Soweto giants, Chiefs and Orlando Pirates only finishing second to Sundowns. Sundowns have taken over not only South African football but also African continental football. It will be very interesting to see if next season Sundowns will continue where they left off this season to continue to dominate the domestic football. This is a question that many soccer followers are asking themselves especially Chiefs and Pirates supporters. Much has been said and written about these two clubs who have become just ordinary clubs to those who support them.
