SEDIBENG.- Relebohile Mofokeng has been nominated for the Belgian Pro League’s Player of the Month award following an impressive run of form for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.

In October, he recorded one goal and three assists across all competitions.

The talented Bafana Bafana forward faces strong competition for the accolade, being nominated alongside prolific rivals Carlos Forbs and Nicolo Tresoldi of Club Brugge.

Mofokeng’s move to Belgium followed his standout performances for Bafana Bafana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, after which he flew straight to Europe to undergo his medical tests.

Before his European journey, he played an instrumental role in helping Orlando Pirates lift the PSL championship trophy.

His rise to prominence is a remarkable journey that began on the dusty soccer grounds and streets of Sharpeville, where he first played barefoot.

Initially, his father opposed his football ambitions due to personal experiences, but his mother became his number one supporter. She stood on the sidelines and cheered him on as he showcased his natural talent by dribbling past opponents.

Winning this monthly award would mean a great deal to the young star.

Looking ahead, Mofokeng is expected to be named in the Bafana Bafana squad to face Kenya in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on November 13.

The Bafana Bafana coach, Pitso Mosimane, is due to announce his final team today.
