The police in Gauteng managed to arrest a total of 1400 suspects through simultaneous joint operations in Gauteng.

The weekend operations were conducted in conjunction with different law enforcement agencies such as Metro Police, Provincial and local Traffic, Immigration from Department of Home Affairs, Department of Community Safety including Community Police Forum and private security companies.

Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello says, ” Suspects were arrested for various criminal charges such as possession of drugs, unlicensed firearms, suspected stolen property, dangerous weapon, dealing in drugs, illegal dealing of liquor, murder, attempted murder, rape, house breaking including undocumented persons.”

Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela has commended the continuous availability of other law enforcement agencies and private security companies through the eyes and ears project.

He further appreciated those who keep on reporting criminal activities and giving tip-offs.

“Some of the arrests would not have been possible if community members did not come forward with information. Let us continue to work together in fight against crime and squeeze the operating space for criminals.”

Sello stars that the arrested suspects included wanted suspects who were arrested by detectives during  tracing operations.

“All suspects are expected to appear in different courts throughout the province starting from Monday.”
