ANC Sedibeng concerned about Waterdal evictions

The Regional Executive Committee (REC) of the ANC in Sedibeng has said that it is concerned about the recent evictions that took place in the Boiketlong/Waterdal informal settlements.

SEBOKENG.- The evictions took place almost two weeks ago where a developer served the community members with a letter of eviction following a court order. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, REC Secretary, Jason Mkhwane said that they have received a report from the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) MMC of Human Settlements which highlighted that the development in Waterdal/Boiketlong is a private/public partnership earmarked for mixed development that includes low-cost housing and RDP houses.

“As a matter of serious concern, we must immediately pay attention to social and humanitarian challenges facing our people in that area, focus on everlasting solutions, avoid emotional buying motives and party-political scoring at the expense of our people. We reiterate that the ANC is not responsible for any evictions (there), this is private land belonging to the developers, certain criminal elements took advantage and fraudulently sold these pieces of land to our people.”

Mkhwane concluded by saying that an appointed Task Team led by the HOD of Social Transformation is set to deal with the multifaceted challenges facing the community, whilst finding long lasting solutions working together with the affected community.
