Landlords owe ELM over R 7.1 M for electricty

The Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) has started to show its teeth.

VANDERBIJLPARK.- This is after several landlords allegedly failed to pay the ELM for its services. Municipal workers literally cut off cables supplying the flats with electricity using huge cable cutters.

The ELM said that in total, it is owed R 7.1 Million by Becuquarel Court R7.1 million, and Betahof owes it R1.7 Million. The landlords are said to have instead complained repeatedly that they have not been paid by illegal occupants of the units who are mostly foreign nationals.

ELM Spokesperson, Chuchie Radebe told Sedibeng Ster that according to the landlords most of the flats have been ‘hijacked’.
Asked what was going to happen to the residents, Radebe responded by saying,”It has already happened. The debt collectors are busy with their work. But you pay, we connect, that’s the motto of ELM.”
