Banyana Banyana…. you are African Queens!
It was a great day of South African football when Banyana Banyana re-wrote African football history when they were crowned the 2020 Women’s African Cup Of Nations (WAFCON) on Saturday night.

SEDIBENG.- This was after they beat the host Morocco in a tense final at Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Morocco, both goals came courtesy of Hildah Magaia.
This was their first ever (WAFCON) after many attempts as and finally the broke the deadlock at Morocco’s expenses. Banyana Banyana won all their WAFCON games from the group stages until the finals with their goalkeeper Andile Dhlamini standing tall on the gola posts. She was named Goalkeeper of The Tournament even though many still believed she deserved Player of The Tournament Award which was won by Ghizlane Chebbak from Morocco.

Banyana Banyana were named the CAF Women’s National Team Of The Year for their outstanding performance for the better part of this women continental tournament. To add more to their accolades, Banyana Banyana Coach Desiree Ellis was named CAF Coach of The Year (Women) prior to the final against Morocco.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sports, after being crowned the African queens, Ellis said she was happy that finally the gold medal was hanging on her neck after years. Ellis dedicated this win to the team’s hard work from the technical staff to her playing personnel, and the support from all South Africans.
”I’m very excited to be part of history and I will always cherishe this for the rest of my football career even though I believe there is still a lot to be achieved. Look, winning this WAFCON was the best thing to happen not only to me but every South African, after years of attempting to win it. We came here well prepared, mentally, psychologically, physically and mentally. The girls were unbelievable from day one of the tournament until the last day,” said Ellis.
