Man arrested following robbery at scrap yard

The police in De Deur have arrested a 26-year-old Zimbabwean male following a business robbery at a scrap yard on the R82, Dreamland. 

DE DEUR. – The arrest was made on Tuesday morning when police were patrolling the area.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela states that the security guard reported that they were ambushed by four unarmed African males who threatened them on arrival.

“The suspects were traveling in a white Mitsubishi bakkie. Suspects tied up the security guard with a cable and took him to a neighbouring plot while other suspects loaded property on the bakkie and subsequently fled the scene.

“In the early hours of the morning when police were doing patrolls, they spotted the Mitsubishi bakkie on R82, police stopped the vehicle and recovered stolen goods that were still loaded on the bakkie.

The man was arrested and charged with bussiness robbery and possession of stolen property.

“The suspect will make an appearance at the Vereeniging Magistrate court.”
