SEBOKENG.- Electricity supply has been partially restored to Sebokeng Zones 3, 6, 7 and 10 and efforts are being made to restore supply to Zones 8, 11, 12 and 13 as they are still without electricity.

Most parts of Sebokeng have been without electricity for almost two weeks after the Seboka Substation was vandalised two weeks ago.

Eskom said that repairs to fix the damages at the Seboka substation are progressing since Eskom shut down the substation following infrastructure vandalism that occurred on 23 July 2022. The shutdown of the substation was implemented to protect the transformer from further damage or catching fire which could cause an explosion since the control room had been vandalised, panel wiring and protection cables were cut, which created a major risk to the transformer as its protection was compromised.

This left the power utility with no choice but to shut down the substation. The shutdown of the Seboka substation affected electricity supply to Sebokeng Zones 3, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12 and 13

Taking into consideration the work completed thus far and the remaining work that still needs to be conducted, Eskom estimates that repairs and full electricity restoration could be on Monday, 8 August 2022.

Eskom strongly condemns the continuous theft and vandalism of its equipment that is taking place across Gauteng. There has been an increase in incidents of theft and vandalism resulting in the loss of revenue and increased replacement costs for Eskom. These criminal acts do not only affect the power utility, but they inconvenience law abiding, paying customers and also affect community service points such as healthcare facilities, education facilities, businesses and the economy at large affect.

The power utility apologises for the inconvenience this causes and appeals for patience as it works on restoring supply to the remaining affected customers.
