Miss Galaxy SA, also known as MGSA, is a women empowerment movement using the “Beauty with Brains and Purpose” platform to empower young women to grow and develop themselves by making a positive contribution to their communities.
Modelling has always been a passion for Dlamini, but she has been discouraged by the stigma of short people being unable to enter pageants or become models. “My confidence grew over time, and I was able to overcome fear and go for what I have always wanted.”
Currently Dlamini is studying towards her Honours Degree in Public Health Promotion as this will help her achieve her dream of working with people to help better their health and well-being.
“I am passionate about people’s health and initially I wanted to be a doctor, but I have gone down the Public Health Promotion route.
“I like impacting people’s lives in a positive way. I started this journey of modelling because I saw that the fashion and beauty world can have a negative effect on people because of certain standards. I want to show people that I can make it even though I don’t meet those standards.
“The pageant helps open up our minds to our own issues and issues affecting women. This aligns with my goals because of the positive impact it has on me. The pageant challenges each of us to step out of our comfort zones.”
To support Dlamini, members of the public can buy tickets at Computicket under MGSA and send proof to bonanimbalenhle@gmail.com. This will assist Dlamini in getting the numbers she needs to do well at the finals.
The finals take place at the Barnyard Theatre in Menlyn on August 13.
