Mooivaal’s award winning journalist retires at 60

Award winning journalist, Lazarus Dithagiso (60) has come to the end of his journalism career after serving MooiVaal Media for 20 years.

SEDIBENG.- Dithagiso who joined MooiVaal Media newspapers in 2002 is well known for breaking news. Apart from that, he won several awards in photography. Speaking at his farewell party hosted by MooiVaal Media, Dithagiso said that he was driven by passion and that it was never about money.


“I’m greaful for what I have achieved in the newsroom since I joined MooiVaal Media. I spent my life in newsroom because of the passion I have for my job.  For me it was not about money but I was driven by passion. I want to thank everyone that I worked with here at MooiVaal Media especially those who welcomed me when I arrived. There are too many memories that I can share with you and I still remember Zacharia Nale used to drive me aroud when I first arrived here  to show me the area. I also want to thank Retha Fitchat, Lerato Serero, Thys Ford, Elsje Vermeulen and everyone for your support for all these years,” he said.


Dithagiso said that when he joined the media industry little did he know that one day he would be an award winning journalist. However, Dithagiso said he won’t be lost in media industry as he will continue to freelance. He said that he intends to teach the upcoming generation of journalists about journalism. Dithagiso will be remembered by the Sedibeng community for his passion for his job especially politicians and SAPS.

He was a truly community journalist who served his community with distinction.
