VANDERBIJLPARK – This is done through a fortnight festival of different theatre plays which are set to be showcased at Desmond Tutu Hall in Vaal University of Technology Great-Desmond Tutu Hall.
And this, was evident this past weekend when the first show bookmarked by Generation of Stars Organization was performed.
Dozens gathered to watch Kgetho, a theatrical play about of a young man on the edge of seeking his identity.
Interviewing Sibusiso Sithole, Director of the show, he shared his sentiments on the attendance and how the show was a success.
“Our organization started in 2015 and we’ve been doing theatre ever since. Kgetho is a story of a young man who is seeking answers pertaining his birth rite. He goes on a quest to find his real mother pretending to be a journalist investigating a story of his own father Joe Mathanzema’s death,” he said.
“During the play, Pat Sekgothe visits two women who were involved in a love triangle with his father. Pretending to investigate details of their love story, Pat ends up finding his own mother at the end of the story,” said Sithole.
The four-hander play consist of characters played by thespians such as Tumelo Mdabuli as Joe Senzangakhona Mathanzema, Mojabeng Rasenyalo as Nthabeleng Gosatsana Masilo involved with Joe and Audi Beula as Thando Beula (another woman involved with Joe) and Molifi Kometsi as Pat Segothe.
Speaking on the turnout, Sithole said he was impressed that there are still people who follow theatre plays in the region.
“I am happy with the turn out considering the time we had to prepare to make this show interesting. Theatre audience is a problem in this region, seeing people coming out in their numbers really means this was a stepping stone,” he said.
Sithole said different shows will be carried out, this is just to familiarize the Vaal region to the scenario of theatre. On the last day, Kgetho will be playing again in closing the curtains,” he said.
