Wanted man hands himself over to police

A man wanted over a 2013 rape case has handed himself over to police.

SEDIBENG – A man wanted in connection with a rape case dating back to 2013 has handed himself over to police, days after Sedibeng detectives appealed to the public for help in locating him.

On August 14, police issued an appeal for information on the whereabouts of this certain individual, who was wanted in connection with a rape case reported at KwaMasiza Hostel in Sebokeng.

According to police spokesperson Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela, the alleged rape occurred at the hostel, where he and other individuals were allegedly involved.

“The matter was reported to the police and registered at Sebokeng SAPS,” Maxambela said.

She said the investigation had continued over the years, with detectives working to trace him.

Police had received information suggesting that he could be in the Eastern Cape and urged anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward.

However, the man subsequently handed himself over to local police, bringing an end to the search for him.

Maxamabela has not yet disclosed the circumstances surrounding his surrender and the next steps in the investigation.

Police continue to investigate the matter.
