VANDERBIJLPARK – Today, the power utility is attaching fleet almost all the pool cars used and branded with the logo of the institution.
The attachment comes after Eskom was granted an order allowing by the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria to attach R1.3 billion worth of assets of ELM for its “continued failure” to settle its accounts and arrears.

In a tweet issued published today by Eskom, the utility said “we are attaching the Emfuleni Local Municipality’s assets after obtaining a R1.3 billion judgement against the municipality. The Sheriff’s office officials working on removing Emfuleni municipality’s vehicles from its premises.”
When Eskom issued the statement that it had started taking steps to recover some of the money from the municipality, including attaching bank accounts and moveable assets, Hassan Makoe confirmed the plan and called it threats.

“We confirm threats by the power utility to attach our account to recover R1,3 billion owed to it. The municipality has been consistently paying the current account to Eskom however, entering into a viable payment agreement with the power utility has been an uphill battle due to intransigence on the part of the power utility’s management.
“We believe Eskom has jumped the gun by going to court without following the IGR process as facilitated by the provincial government,” he said.
At the time of publishing this story, the municipality had not responded to the enquiries.
This is a developing story.
