Sedibeng District women in blue ended Women’s Month on a high note, curbing criminality on the streets and leaving no stone unturned.

This was done in the form of a multi-disciplinary Operation Basadi in collaboration with Gauteng Traffic Police, Mpumalanga Traffic Department, Lesedi Traffic Department, Siyabangena and other law-enforcement stakeholders, at the N3 Weighbridge in the Heidelberg policing precinct.

The operation focused on road safety, compliance, crime prevention and the enforcement of relevant legislation.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela reports that the multidisciplinary team conducted 435 vehicle searches and 1 134 person searches, while 38 vehicles were tested and 24 Person Identification and Verification Application (PIVA) tests were conducted.

“The operation resulted in nine arrests, including eight undocumented foreign nationals. The arrested foreign nationals were identified as one Lesotho national, three Zimbabwean nationals and four Mozambican nationals. One person was arrested for harbouring an illegal immigrant.”

Maxambela stated that motorists were penalized for contravening the traffic laws, resulting in 35 traffic fines issued to the value of R29 360.

Maxambela says that the success of this operation highlights the commitment of the SAPS in combating crime in the communities it serves.

“Sedibeng District SAPS commends all participating law-enforcement agencies for their continued cooperation and commitment to ensuring safer roads, preventing crime and enforcing the law. The Integrated Operation Basadi demonstrates the importance of coordinated law-enforcement operations in addressing crime, road safety and compliance within the district.”

Maxambela encourages members of the public to comply with the law, drive responsibly and cooperate with law-enforcement officials during operations.
