NWU management takes oversite on multi-purpose hall project

The project is expected to come to its completion at the end of March.

VANDEBIJLPARK.- The management of North-West University (NWU) Vanderbijlpark Campus was recently led by Professor Linda du Plessis, deputy vice-chancellor for planning and Vanderbijlpark Campus operations, on a walkabout to see how the construction of the campus’ highly anticipated multi-purpose hall is progressing.

The multi-purpose hall project started in July 2022 and it is anticipated to be completed next month. The building will accommodate more than 1 700 people. The hall equipped with state-of-the-art features will be ideal for hosting events and public gatherings.

During the site tour, Marietjie Van der Ryst, manager of Maintenance and Facilities Services, explained the status of the project.

“The project is due for completion at the end of March. The building will easily accommodate spectators to our indoor sports matches and provide a safe and usable environment for our students, staff and guests. Providing a space that can be used for such a diverse range of activities was at the heart of the project.”

Van Der Ryst adds that the new multi-purpose hall was a much-needed addition to the campus’ landscape.

Prof Du Plessis said the hall would be the hub of the campus, a renowned area where experiences will be shared and memories made.

“There is big excitement about the prospect of having our own big multi-purpose hall on campus. This hall will allow us to host indoor sports, social events, conferences as well as graduation ceremonies and other student gatherings in style.

“This building will definitely enhance the student value proposition on the campus and will allow us to do even more to create a vibrant student life. All graduates can now look forward to graduating on campus, next to the picturesque Vaal River.”
