GAUTENG. – The police in Gauteng effected over 2000 arrests for different crimes through operation O Kae Molao which is conducted weekly in various districts throughout the province. A large number of suspects were arrested during the tracing of wanted suspects which is the first phase of the operation conducted by the detectives.
Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello reports that in Tshwane District, police arrested more than 680 suspects through multiple crime prevention duties that include, roadblocks, stop and searches, vehicle check points and compliance inspections.
“In Johannesburg District, about 570 suspects were nabbed for various crimes such as possession of suspected stolen property, dealing in drugs, drunk and driving, malicious damage to property and assault GBH amongst others.”
Sello adds that police in Ekurhuleni District arrested 520 suspects for different crimes and seized drugs, unlicensed firearms and alive ammunition.
“West Rand District arrested 196 suspects and Sedibeng District arrested 108 suspects,” she said.
Sello reports that some of the suspects have already been released after paying fines while others are expected to appear in different courts throughout the province starting from Monday,20 February.
Following the success, Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection, Major General Mbuso Khumalo applauded all law enforcement agencies, Community Policing Forum (CPF) and private security companies for their dedication in fighting crime.
