Recent heavy rain leaves Barrage community hopeless

The Barrage community has been left in despair following the overflow of the Rietspruit stream.

BARRAGE. –  The recent heavy rains have left the Barrage residents reeling in loss, and they will be in despair for some time coming.

The residents found themselves devastated as their houses were flooded. Those next to the Reitspruit stream were left with huge damages totaling thousands of rands as the stream was full more than its capacity.

The stream flows from Randfontein via Evaton to Rietspruit, Reitkuil to Louisrus via Rassashof to Barrage, it then joins the Vaal River. The community of Barrage lost almost everything as their houses were damaged due to the stream overflowing.

Police Spokesperson, Sergeant Nombulelo Mohlakoana said that the Police air wing, water wing, mounted unit, and Barrage SAPS together with the neighbourhood watch and disaster management team worked tirelessly to save people and about seventy people were rescued by the teams.

“The Barrage Station Commander thanked all the stakeholders involved and extend her heartfelt to those who have lost their houses, furniture, and other belongings,” said Mohlakoana.
