SEBOKENG.- Master Zondo hailed his Easter Soccer Tournament as a great success.
The tournament was held at Zone 12 dusty soccer ground over Easter Holidays. This 14th annual Master Zondo Sports Foundation Tournament was established in 2009 to keep children busy and safe during these holidays.
The tournament consisted of the u13, u/15, u/16, and u/17 and Top 8 and u/21 divisions with the u/11 set to start from 27-30 April. Unlike other tournaments that are hosted during the Easter Holidays, the Master Sports Foundation Tournament is mainly focused on the development of football in the Emfuleni area.
Some of the local upcoming businesses that formed part of this tournament include Thirsty H20 and Heist of Combos with the Gauteng Department of Sports also being the main partner of the tournament. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Zondo who is the director of Master Zondo Sports Foundation said that every year the tournament becomes bigger and better with the support from the community.
Home Defenders FC were crowned the champions in the u/13 category while COVID-19 FC were crowned champions in the u/15 division. Sebokeng Brazil FC and CFK walked away with gold medals in the u/17 and u/21 categories respectively.
“As a director of the Master Zondo Foundation, I want to take this opportunity and thank all our partners for making sure everything becomes possible. We also want to thank all the clubs that took part in the tournament from all the different areas of Sedibeng and not forgetting my coordinators for making this event a great success. We also want to thank our Ward34 Councillor Cde Thabonyana Mokoena for the great support he has shown us all these years,” said Zondo.
Zondo said he wishes all the teams the best of luck in their upcoming Emfuleni Local Football Association’s (ELFA) junior league set to kick off on 15 April at various venues in the Emfuleni area.
