Nine men Sundowns hold their own against Wydad

Sundowns supporters are expected to pack the stadium and paint it yellow with South Africans also behind them on Saturday.

SEDIBENG.- Mamelodi Sundowns’ nine men miraculously held Wydad Casablanca to a goalless draw in the CAF Championship League first leg in Morocco on Saturday night.

The Sundown team defended with their backs against the wall to force the game to a goalless draw. Neo Maema was the first to be red-carded in the first half and things went from bad to worse when Sundowns were reduced to nine men after Marcelo Allende was sent off for a reckless tackle on a Wydad defender. At this stage, the home team threw everything to Sundowns in an attempt to get a goal going into a second leg away from home.

The results give Sundown an advantage coming in the second leg scheduled to take place at Loftus Versfeld Stadium this coming Saturday.  If their fighting spirit in Morocco is anything to go by, there is no doubt that Sundowns will beat Wydad AC in their backyard come Saturday.

The kick-off is at 15:00.
