‘Nasi Ispani’ is legit and will alleviate poverty: ANC Gauteng

"More jobs would be created for Gauteng’s youth until July 2024."

SEDIBENG. –  The African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng recently assured over 40 000 youth that has been employed through the ‘Nasi ispani’ ANC-led government program that no one will fire them.

This follows recent announcements by different political parties that the program is nothing but a ploy by the ruling party to garner youth votes in the upcoming national elections of 2024. Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Commander in Chief (CIC), Julius Malema announced during a media address this week that those hired in the program will be fired when his party wins during the national elections next year.

ANC Gauteng said that the employment of all the 40 000 young people who were recently handed employment contracts is above board.

“This employment opportunity will provide salaries that pay a living wage enabling young workers to not only sustain themselves but also be able to contribute to lifting their families out of poverty. These salaries supplement other forms of social assistance that families in the Gauteng Province already receive based on their needs profiles,” the party said.

It further added that the youth that is employed is largely from a working-class background, with families that had previously struggled to make ends meet, through ‘Nasi Ispani’, and that their dehumanizing conditions have been turned around and their lives transformed.

Nasii Spani is a program of the Gauteng Provincial Government under the leadership of Premier Panyaza Lesufi, which aims to address the scourge of youth unemployment in the province.

Lesufi and his executive recently handed out 40 000 employment contracts to young people at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto and further announced that more jobs would be created for Gauteng’s youth until July 2024. These include 12 000 jobs for young people to install Wi-Fi in townships, informal settlements, and hostels.
