VANDERBIJLPARK. – Elderly women from in and around the Vaal Triangle were recently invited to join the Yebo Gogo High Tea experience at the Emerald Casino and Resort.
According to one of the organizers, Elisa Rathaba, Yebo Gogo aims to ignite the spirit of togetherness among elderly people. Rathaba says being part of the vibrant club for the elderly helps in keeping the Gogo’s active and away from a lonely and stressful life.
“We see many elderly women being neglected and at times being abused by their families. We saw it as important to give elderly people a purpose in life so that they can go out and meet other people like them.
“Yebo Gogo is providing an opportunity for elderly ladies to become active.
We have skills development campaigns of things they know and love and have done before. We also encourage them to share these skills with young people so that the skills do not only end in the older generation.”
Lucky Khubeka, a convener at the event said that they are looking at older people to play a role in teaching young people the skills they have.
“Most of the ladies have technical skills so they will be trained to use the body of knowledge to help them play a part in the economy. We are going to teach them to produce products and put them out in the market.”
