EFF concerned by ‘the lack of will to resuscitate’ parks
Parks are beneficial to communities because they create a space for community members to congregate safely and enjoy nature.

SEBOKENG. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Sedibeng has said that it is concerned about the lack of will to resuscitate parks in the area.
The party said that parks are beneficial to communities because they create a space for community members to congregate safely and enjoy nature; kids can play under their parents’ watchful eye and community members can improve their health with equipment, all within a relaxing environment.
“They are also a source of positive economic benefits. They enhance property values, increase municipal revenue, bring in homebuyers and workers, when adjacent to residential areas, parks have been shown to create neighbourhoods with fewer violent and property crimes and where neighbours tend to support and protect one another,” said EFF Sedibeng Chairperson, Isaac Khithika.
He added that the factors that explain these findings emphasize the importance of greenery in community and personal wellness, however, this is not the case in most parts of Emfuleni where parks have turned into illegal dumping sites.
“We are calling on the Emfuleni ANC-led municipality to prioritise parks and ensure they are brought back to their normal state.”
