VEREENIGING. – Mphoentle Plaatjie, a 26-year-old Miss World SA Finalist from Waaldrift, expressed how her journey in the competition has re-ignited her purpose of democratising opportunities for young people through sustainable development.
Plaatjie, who is an Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) & Sustainable Business Specialist and a United Nations Global Compact Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Innovator for 2023, shared her excitement and the heartwarming support she has received from family, friends, and people from the Vaal.
Plaatjie is dedicated to achieving audacious goals and inspiring others to embark on their journeys to achieve their own goals. She has a strong spirit of resilience and is committed to making a positive impact.
As a young innovator, Plaatjie recently attended the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) Leader’s Summit, where she engaged with business leaders, UN officials, government leaders, SDG stakeholders, and civil society professionals from around the world to review their contributions to advancing the SDGs.
Plaatjie’s passion for sustainable development and improving the lives of South Africans has driven her to align her Miss World SA campaign with personal objectives. She encourages young girls to seize opportunities when presented and to pursue their dreams with audacity and determination.
She stated: “My passion for young people and the sustainable development of my community are the driving forces behind my campaign to become Miss World South Africa.”
Plaatjie’s journey in the competition serves as a platform for her to advocate for the causes she is deeply passionate about.
