Man, 55, dies after being struck by car in Amelia

A case of Culpable Homicide has since been opened following an accident in Amelia that claimed a life of a 55-year-old man.

ZAMDELA – The calmness of a Saturday afternoon in Amelia was shattered when a devastating accident claimed the life of a 55-year-old pedestrian, identified as Phineas Seipei.

The incident, which occurred on October 28, has left the community in shock and mourning, as the exact circumstances of the accident continue to be investigated by the authorities.

Sergeant Josephine Rani, the spokesperson for the Sasolburg police, confirmed that a case of culpable homicide has been registered in connection with this tragic incident.

The victim, Seipei, had been in the process of crossing the R82 road, a critical artery connecting Amelia to Walter Sisulu, when he was struck by a Mercedes Benz.

According to Rani, the Mercedes was traveling from Koppies to the Four Ways stop at the time of the accident.
Sergeant Rani expressed the ongoing investigative efforts, saying, “The exact circumstances surrounding the accident are still under investigation, and the police are working diligently to gather all relevant information.”

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the collision occurred at an intersection, where Seipei was in the process of crossing the road.

The impact of the collision was severe, resulting in fatal injuries for the pedestrian.

Despite the swift response of local residents and witnesses who called for emergency services, Seipei tragically succumbed to his injuries.
