MIDVAAL. – Midvaal Local Municipality (MLM) Mayor Peter Teixeira recently delivered a speech to the council. In his address, Teixeira commended various departments and employees within MLM, highlighting the recent accomplishments of the municipality.
He emphasised that the municipality’s achievements would only hold value if they were visible and tangible to the local community. Teixeira reaffirmed MLM’s commitment to upholding good governance.
“While Midvaal Municipality takes pride in its financial stability, it must be reflected in tangible services that improve the socioeconomic conditions of our residents. Clean audits and financial sustainability are meaningless if our people do not experience the difference in their daily lives.”
Teixeira also outlined several completed service delivery projects in Midvaal, including the Bronk Road Project, four new parks, the newly established maker space and gaming rooms at Lakeside Library.
“In Sicelo, we’ve provided formal electricity, installed streetlights, particularly in Kuvukiland, and introduced solar-powered Apollo lights, significantly reducing crime by improving visibility and deterring criminal activities.”
Acknowledging existing challenges, Teixeira expressed the municipality’s commitment to improving response times. Plans to enhance resident engagement through the My Midvaal App and a Midvaal WhatsApp Bot were highlighted, allowing residents to register complaints and access self-help services, striving to offer 24-hour services without constant human intervention.
Teixeira emphasised the municipality’s efforts in improving residents’ lives through collaborations with various stakeholders. He also highlighted Midvaal’s promotion as a tourist destination, boasting various leisure spots for both locals and visitors.
In sharing future plans, Teixeira reiterated the significance of good governance, stating, “Elected officials must prioritise the well-being of their citizens, making decisions for their benefit. Our primary goal as public representatives of Midvaal Local Municipality must remain unwavering.”
