VANDERBIJLPARK. – Employees of the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) housed at the Trust Bank Building were seen working outside the offices on Monday, 27 November following a picket.
The workers said this is due to the lack of ventilation in their offices. According to employees, the current heat wave has worsened the situation. The staff resorted to sitting outside the office building and carrying on with their duties while assisting residents outside.
The Trust Bank office houses various departments such as the Human Resource Department, Building Control, and Land Use Management.
“Some of us have even fallen sick due to this issue. We have alerted the management about this, and we need the management to act promptly as this is causing health issues for some employees.”
The Ok Building which also houses other departments belonging to ELM is said to be facing the same struggles. It is reported that the offices have poor ventilation with air-conditioners in the office not working.
ELM spokesperson Makhosonke Sangweni says: “The management is aware of the working conditions and is promptly and seriously attending to them as some of them have financial implications. Unions, management, and all stakeholders will work together to find a long-lasting solution.”
