A sea of blue hits the Vaal

A sea of blue flooded Ratanda as DA leaders fired up supporters and declared the Vaal election battle on.

SEDIBENG – Blue regalia, loud cheers and fired-up supporters filled Ratanda Multipurpose Hall as the DA held its final regional rally in Heidelberg on October 22.

Hundreds of party members from Emfuleni, Midvaal and Lesedi gathered in a sea of blue, singing, chanting and showing their support ahead of the upcoming local government elections.

The rally brought together party leaders and supporters as the DA stepped up its campaign across the Vaal region.

The gathering followed the party’s final rally in Johannesburg at Nasrec, led by federal leader Helen Zille.

Among the senior leaders at the Sedibeng rally were DA Deputy Federal Chairperson Solly Msimanga, Midvaal Mayor Peter Teixeira, Lesedi mayoral candidate Mokete Motsamai, Regional Chairperson Prudence Hlanyane, Emfuleni Caucus Leader Duncan Mthembu and Emfuleni mayoral candidate Kingsol Chabalala.

Addressing the crowd, Msimanga said the real work was about to begin, with just two weeks remaining before the election date.

“The DA has arrived. This is the time to get to work. Forget about all these other Mickey Mouse parties. The only big parties that will decide the future of the Vaal are the DA and the ANC,” he said.

Msimanga also criticised the government’s record in the region, promising that the DA would work towards bringing change to communities.

“Where the government has failed the people of the Vaal region, we are saying here: no more. We are putting in a government that will bring the change that we want,” he said.

The rally gave the party an opportunity to rally its supporters from the three municipalities as political parties intensified their campaigns ahead of the polls.

With service delivery and local governance among the issues facing communities, the DA sought to convince voters that it could offer an alternative in Emfuleni, Midvaal and Lesedi.

As the rally wrapped up, the message from the party leadership was clear: the campaign was entering its final stretch, and supporters were being urged to get to work ahead of election day.
