Education Veterans plan to leave a lasting legacy

"Our aim is to contribute to the community, understanding the persistent challenges faced by our schools. With our diverse expertise and experience, we refuse to be passive bystanders."

BEDWORTH-PARK. – Education Veterans are poised to relay their legacy by engaging in community-driven initiatives. Comprising retired professionals from diverse roles within the education sector, this NGO was founded by Agnes Matlhare with the aim of uniting retired individuals passionate about education to contribute back to society.

Nthako Nthako, former Principal of Sediba Primary School, emphasized the collective effort of the Education Veterans since the organisation’s inception in April.

“Our group, formed as Education Veterans, has actively collaborated across fields beyond education. We invite retirees from various professions to unite in effecting positive change within the community,” Nthako stated, highlighting their ongoing commitment to teaching.

Reflecting on his tenure as a principal, Nthako encouraged colleagues not to limit their impact solely based on their roles but to actively participate in uplifting children through education.

Maipato Tsokolibane, former ELM speaker and educator, affirmed: “As former educators, we recognise that education is timeless and unceasing. Our aim is to contribute to the community, understanding the persistent challenges faced by our schools. With our diverse expertise and experience, we refuse to be passive bystanders.”

Tsokolibane further urged retired teachers to join their cause, emphasizing plans underway for 2024 aimed at supporting children and educators in local schools. This year, the Education Veterans rallied under the theme of Unity.

Tsokolibane revealed a current membership of 80 individuals in the Sedibeng region and extended an invitation to other veterans eager to continue impacting the community positively.
