Thathohatsi celebrates Christmas with children

The Christmas was made possible by donations of food and clothing from good Samaritans.

EVATON.- The Thathohatsi Community Centre held a Christmas party for disadvantaged children and families in Evaton in December.

The Non-Profit Organisation (NPO), based in Evaton and established in 2022, is devoted to making a difference in the community. It runs a soup kitchen in the area that provides for children whose families are struggling to make ends meet. During the Christmas celebrations, children received party packs while their parents received donated clothing.

Thathohatsi Community Centre Director, Puleng Sera said that the NPO was established after she saw a need for food and shelter in the community.

“I gathered a few people (women) from the neighbourhood and we started our kitchen soup. I would normally come with whatever groceries I have in the house and cook with the women for the children to eat every Saturday,” said Sera.

The Christmas party was made possible by donations of food and clothing from good Samaritans.

“Lending a helping hand has always been my passion. As an NPO we would like to reach out to more families and give out more but we are limited as we lack proper funding. We are pleading with anyone willing to assist to please do so.”

Sera can be contacted on 078 366 0453.
