I guess when we vote, we vote for a better life. You ask yourself, what does this have to do with TOUCHLINE or sports?
It has something to do with sport!
It is a concern that we lack sporting facilities in the Sedibeng region, especially in the poor of the poorest communities. If I vote this year, I will vote on one condition, if those politicians or political parties promise to revive the “has been” sporting facilities in our community.
There is a serious need to revive legendary sports facilities like the Zone 7 Stadium, Zone 11 Stadium, and Kwa-Masiza Stadium in our community. It doesn’t make sense that George Thabe Stadium is the only stadium in the whole of Sedibeng that is fully functional. For those with short memories, Sedibeng was one of the regions that hosted the 2010 World Cup teams for accommodation and training purposes.
But no one can tell!
The Ivory Coast national soccer team was one of the countries that utilised the George Thabe Stadium for training. The stadium was in good condition, perfect, out of this world, but look at the venue now. Lack of maintenance is the result of how the venue looks now.
Grand, grand what are we left with here in Sedibeng when it comes to sporting facilities?
There are no more decent municipality facilities left in this region as the teams have to use privately owned facilities for sporting activities. Sometimes tears roll out of my eyes when I recall when schools used to utilise venues such as Zone 7 and Kwa-Masiza Stadium for school athletics.
Mara (but) how did we end up here?
MATTER OF FACT: There are no more decent facilities in our community and our kids have to walk miles to access better sporting facilities yet we voted for a better life? With the coming elections, we should ask ourselves what we are voting for.
TOUCHLINE doesn’t care which political party you will vote for but there must be a change and better life for young people. Sports play a significant role in our community in terms of combating crime and substance abuse.
I grew up in a community where every child participated in sports especially football which happens to be No 1 sport in the world. TOUCHLINE’s plea to you is that, when we vote we must consider a better life for our children.
The time has come that we must vote for change for the sake of our children.
