Taxi operator shot and killed at Meyerton rank

The victim was fatally shot by two suspects who fled the scene with a silver vehicle.

MEYERTON – A taxi operator was shot and killed in cold blood at Meyerton taxi rank on Wednesday afternoon, January 31.

The brazen incident happened in full view of other taxi operators, marshals, and commuters.

According to a source close to the incident, two suspects casually walked into the rank at around 18:23, walked to the taxi driver, opened fire, and walked back to a silver Toyota Corolla vehicle before evading the scene.

The motive of the shooting remains unknown however police are investigating the matter.

Several role players comprising South African Police Services, Community Policing Forums, and private security companies attended to the shooting incident.

Medics went to the scene and declared the operator deceased on site.

When Sedibeng Ster attended the crime scene, the lifeless body of the taxi operator was still lying in a pool of blood and covered in a foil.

At the time of publishing this story, police had not responded to inquiries.
