BOPHELONG. – Tshepo Ramatlotlo, a teenager residing in Bophelong, Extension 10, has invested his hard-earned money from weekend odd jobs to bring his dream creation to life.
Fondly dubbed “Jeepers Creepers,” his homemade quad-bike has become a standout attraction in his community.
Using scrap materials such as poles, window burglar bars, quad bike wheels, and a real bike engine, Ramatlotlo pieced together his beloved Jeepers Creepers. The unconventional design caught the attention of the Ster South team as they were returning from an assignment, further cementing its status as a local marvel.
Seated confidently atop one of the two chairs attached to his creation, Ramatlotlo proudly showcased his invention as he rode through the streets, drawing attention from passersby.
In an interview with the Sedibeng Ster, Ramatlotlo shared his journey from riding bicycles to building his quad-bike masterpiece.
“My passion for anything related to bikes led me to upgrade from a BMX
bicycle to a scooter. However, I soon grew bored and sought something more advanced, which inspired me to create Jeepers Creepers,” he explained.
Through weekend and school holiday odd jobs, the 17-year-old Mathematic and Science learner, diligently saved up to purchase an engine for his invention.
“Utilising my skills in bicycle repair, I earned extra money, negotiating with sellers to lower prices until I could afford the engine I desired. With the
remaining funds, I purchased metal and began constructing the bike,” he recounted with a smile.
Upon completing his creation, Ramatlotlo eagerly embarked on its maiden ride. “The sound of the engine’s first rev filled me with excitement as I tore through the streets. Though there are still improvements to be made, I am satisfied with my accomplishment,” he expressed.
Looking ahead, Ramatlotlo aspires to study mechanical engineering to fulfil his dream of becoming the first car
manufacturer in his family.
“I aim to leave a lasting legacy for my family. After completing my matriculation, I plan to pursue a path in manufacturing, with the goal of creating a car named after my clan,” he affirmed.
