‘No kid should go to bed hungry’

They not only enhance their well-being but also extend a helping hand to those in need within the community.

SAVANNA CITY.- Boyca Motaung, a 35-year-old resident of Savanna City in Sebokeng, wears many hats – he is both a talented photographer and a dedicated community developer. On Sunday, March 10, he orchestrated a heartwarming event where children from Savanna City were generously provided with clothes and food.

Within the framework of the Savanna City Development initiative, a unique program has been established – aerobics sessions aimed at fundraising for a noble cause: to support a feeding scheme for children and to contribute positively to the wider community.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Boyca humbly expressed that his actions stem from a place of genuine care for his community, rather than a quest for personal recognition. He passionately emphasised that his endeavours are motivated by love and a desire to witness his community flourish into a more unified and prosperous entity.

Since its inception in 2021, Savanna City Development has implemented various programs, ranging from aerobics sessions to educational initiatives like ‘Ringa Ndoda’, aimed at promoting non-violence among men, and providing assistance to children in need of clothing.

Sithembiso Masuku, a member of the aerobics club, shared his heartfelt sentiments, acknowledging the impact of their collective efforts. Through their contributions, he emphasised, they not only enhance their well-being but also extend a helping hand to those in need within the community.

Boyca’s journey, growing up in a disadvantaged family where hunger was a constant companion, serves as a driving force behind his dedication to the cause. His own experiences have ignited a profound commitment to ensuring that no child goes to bed hungry – a commitment that led to the establishment of Savanna City Community Development.

Emphasising the organization’s non-profit status, Boyca stressed its reliance on donations to sustain its impactful work. Lineo Moeti, a member of the community development team, echoed the sentiment, highlighting Boyca’s invaluable contributions not only to the community but also to his circle of friends and family.

As Savanna City Community Development continues to make strides in uplifting communities around Vaal, its vision extends beyond regional boundaries. Their ultimate goal is to expand nationally, ensuring that their programs are accessible to communities across the country, thus magnifying their positive impact far and wide.
