Man (54) killed in N1 ‘Easter horror crash’

A heart wrenching accident left residents of Beverly Hills reeling in shock after a 54-year-old man was killed during a horrific motor vehicle accident on N1 at the weekend.

SEBOKENG. – A life of a 54-year-old man was cut short on Saturday night, March 30, when his Hyundai i10 crushed head-on into a truck on the N1.

The incident happened around 22:00 just opposite Bervely Hills in Sebokeng, leaving residents reeling in shock and gathered on the busy freeway.
Police and emergency services swiftly attended to the scene where the man’s lifeless body was retrieved from the crumpled wreckage of his vehicle using jaws of life.

Motorists driving towards Johannesburg caused the traffic to move slow as they peeped the man learning towards the driver’s door with windows broken and the engine pushed back to the front of the vehicle.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster in anonymity, a resident who lives meters away from the accident scene, said they head hauling hooter from the big truck before loud bangs.

“We were watching TV when we heard screeching tires and bangs of cars crashing into one another. We rushed outside and found an i10 plunged by a truck. At the time we arrived at the scene, the driver was still breathing, however trapped inside his vehicle. We called emergency services and police,” said the 35-year-old woman.

Sedibeng police spokesman Sergeant Shaan Motsapi confirmed that a case of culpable homicide has been opened.
